Are you a believer in the saying “all the good names are taken”? I thought so until about 2 months ago when I started to get some really nice hand regged domains. Many were regged in the past and dropped this year due to people just not wanting to keep putting money into names that may not make any PPC.

At the same time I have been self teaching myself to install and tweak wordpress sites. Sites that up until 3 months ago I was paying peeps $60-$300 for. Makes a big difference when you can actually put sites up instead of parking the domains and crossing your fingers.

If I couldn’t make my own sites I may not have took these but if I can get them to make their renewal fees per year I’ll be thrilled.

BTW if you want a site put up get hold of me…I put wordpress sites up for $5-10! Yes that’s right and it’s not too good to be true. We can talk and I’ll give you all details and maybe I’ll make an ad here on site too. Maybe I’ll become known as the guy that puts up $5 sites and took the money made from them and bought geo domains and became a millionaire.

I also regged 3 names about 4 days ago that I had an offer on within 24 hours. The 3 names sold for high 3 figures. Not bad for about 15 minutes work! Those were not Geo domains though.

The end of the year is just a few days away.

At this time of year I usually get two gut feelings.  The warm fuzzy feeling from the Rum in the egg-nog while at parties and eating dinners out. The other is that crap feeling when I realize I didn’t do all the things on all those post-it notes that hold my office together.

Heres’ a few end of year to-do items…some are obvious and some you may not have thought of…

Organize and change passwords.

Get a program that watches your names in bulk.

Make sure your names point where they should be pointing.

Renew any names that have less than 1 year left on them.

Delete a few shit names.

Organize the bookmarks on your computer (I just did this and I’m sure I’ll be more productive because of it).

Get a tune up done on your computer or do it yourself…if your on it for hours per day this could add many productive hours to next year.

Buy a bigger monitor…unless your maxed out already. You just feel more productive when you can see what your doing. Note: this is not so you can play more games

Get your first virtual assistant This can be a company that answers your phone or someone that write content for your websites but anyone making a business on the web should start thinking about this.

That should keep you busy for a while.

So last night I went to downtown Chicago to the Hilton hotel to check out the Search Engine Strategies Conference and Expo. The Expo floor was free if you preordered the pass and $50 at the door. The whole conference is about $2000 before any discount codes.

I had two goals…to just get my feet wet a little in that space and to meet any other “domainers” that may be there. I already knew Bill Hartzer would be there and we had talked before the show to plan to meet up.

I wandered into the Expo hall trying to not look like a newb. There were about 10-15 exhibits that were mostly SEO ompanies of course and a few magazines including  copies of “Domainer’s” magazine in the hall. I signed up for a few free subscriptions…free is always good…and grabbed as many copies of the current editions as allowed.

It was sparce as far as peeps until the current session let out and then a flood of people came in which made it possible to listen to their conversations which worked out great. Some good stuff in those conversations including a few mentioning .mobi which shocked me but was fun hearing.

I got an unexpected bonus when I checked out a crowd in the back of the room which was actually 2 free sessions where expert SEO guys were critiqueing peoples sites. That was a great 1 and a half hours and come to find out I was standing next to the owners of Skis.com. Had a few words with them and off to find Bill.

Bill Hartzer is a good guy and has about 10 years of SEO expertice. We had a good hour or so of Domain chat and I had to head out to catch my train.

I HIGHLY recommend attending this show if it’s ever possible or at least go to the Expo hall and hang out for a few hours…you never know what you’ll hear.

PS…bring about $100 to spend at the book store table…another nice touch and pleasant surprise.

Geo domains don’t get much better than this although I’d rather have a big city geo domain. It would be less work and still make big money.

Not many countries compare to Russia though in size and scope. English speaking people would be the target audience that’s for sure. I can’t decide if I’d make a travel site or a business portal if Iwas the owner.

Restaurant domains are a niche I have been collecting for a few years now and I’ve also found some good restaurant  sites and blogs along the way. WaiterRant.net is one of those blogs. The owner writes great books about the restaurant industry and has a great sense of humor and writing style. He was even on the Oprah show before!

His latest post is a hilarious reprint of a company email sent out to employees for NOT collecting customer emails. We all know it’s a must these days to get a good email list built up but there’s a right way and a wrong way.
